Test Tube Baby

Test Tube Baby is the most advanced form of treatment for infertile couples. This treatment is suitable for all types of infertility, but is most recommended to women with blocked tubes and men with poor semen quality.

Test Tube Baby Treatment is the only fertility treatment for women with irreparably damaged or blocked fallopian tubes or when tube has been removed after ectopic pregnancy. Test Tube Baby Treatment is also offered when infertile women can not conceive with simple method of treatment for conditions such as Endometriosis, Ovulatory dysfunction, Un-explained Infertility, Immunological problems and sperm disorder.

Test tube baby treatment is being practiced in the whole Muslim world including Saudi Arabia and is considered in line with the Islamic teaching. It should not be considered as a last treatment and should not be left for the advanced age. It has best results if performed on women under 35 years of age, but the treatment can be performed after 40 years of age with good success rates. The young couples with no detectable cause have the highest results.

After preliminary evaluation of the couple the treatment cycle is completed in 20 days. It is started on day 2 of the menstruation and the wife is given daily injections for next 10-14 days. During this time she visits the clinic every 3 days for ultrasound. Once the desired number and size of eggs is achieved the wife is given 2 injections for maturation of eggs. Next day both husband and wife are called to clinic together.

For husband living away or abroad it is important to understand that this is the only day when husband is required at clinic in this treatment. The husband gives his semen. The wife is taken to Operation Theater and given general anesthesia. The eggs are removed from the ovary with the help of a needle and placed in the incubator. The couple is allowed to go home after 2 hours. In the lab, the sperms and eggs are then mixed for fertilization. This is done by 2 methods.

In-vitro fertilization (IVF)

In in-vitro Fertilization the eggs and sperms are placed in close proximity in a dish and are observed for next 48 hours for spontaneous fertilization.

Intra – cytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI)

In this method an eggs in held with a tube and sperm is aspirated in a needle. The sperm is then injected into the egg. This method is highly technical and has a high fertilization rate.

Embryo Transfer

Three to five days after egg collection the wife is called to center again and the fertilized eggs (usually 3) are placed in her uterus through a special catheter. This means that in test tube baby treatment the pregnancy grows for first 3 days in lab and for the rest of nine months it grows in wife's uterus like normal pregnancy. Only start of pregnancy is facilitated in test tube baby treatment.
